Mats research focus has in the last 15 years been on participation in everyday life for children and youth in need of special support. Both concepts, assessment methods and to some interventions have been studied. In recent years participation has been linked to mental health problems, based on the assumption that participation can be seen as a positive expression of mental health. Mats research has been conducted in a wide international network including researchers in Australia, South Africa, Portugal, USA, Canada and the Netherlands.
